Woke up and thought today was going to be a good day, exactly the way Ice Cube portrays it in his song. Today feels like the best day ever. I found out that my wife and I are having a baby girl, I mean fuck yea! I'm allowed to say that, this is my damn blog, sucka!

So happy and so thankful for having a daughter and having the opportunity to name her after my mom. We already have the name planned out, we are so happy it's pouring out of the both of us! This totally affects the show on so many levels.

From taking time off to take care of the baby, to now planning further in advance and bringing the baby with us, to inspiration the baby is going to provide us, plus so much more. It's all good though, life will be as is and will be lived and loved no matter the circumstances we face.

My dad, step mom and my mother-in-law came in to share the reveal of the news. We ended up going to Panera afterwards and talked about how amazing it is to have this blessing of bringing in a new child to this earth. With my mom being gone, this moment really affected me strongly and allowed me to appreciate the beauty of life just that much more.

12- 2pm:
Spent time updating our Kickstarter campaign and reaching out to as many people as possible to support our trip to LA to interview amazing musical guests for The Scott Emo Show. I'm really focused on raising the neccessary funds to get these interviews captured on film so we can have the content for life. That's how amazing it is to interview people, you get to be inspired over and over again from real people who have real stories, but while having fun.

If you don't know who Phillip Chang is, you might not be in PR/Marketing. Phillip is definitely a sophisticated, cool and great guy to know. He came up with an idea for our Kickstarter campaign that made so much sense. He told me that our rewards were ok, but we should spice it up. So... what did he do, Scott?

Well, Phillip came up with the genius idea of allowing some of our project backers the exclusive opportunity to ask our interviewees a question. I thought it was such a good incentive for someone to support the project and get some real cool value out of their financial support. So, he motivated me to update our campaign and within a few hours, it was on!!!

Going to get ice cream with the Lindsay and her mom... To be continued.

I think I'm going to spend the rest of the night trying to sell our Kickstarter campaign to everyone I know.

5:14 p.m.
Just got a call from Kandi Burruss' publicist a few mins ago to confirm we have an interview with the lovely Kandi Burruss on Wednesday of next week! I'm a legit fan of the Real Housewives show, but I'm especially a fan of Kandi because she's bold, creative, passionate and you can feel her positive energy. It'll be a phone interview, and it's going to be awesome. Now, I need to do my research on her from other interviews she has done and ensure I'm bringing something unique to the table, but stays consistent with our message.

Therapy Is Way Normal

We all have issues, if you think you don't you definitely need to see a therapist

I (sometimes) get really excited to go see my therapist. It's a time for me to say and feel whatever I want and my feelings are heard and nurtured. Who doesn't like being held (emotionally) like a baby and knowing someone cares about you and your thoughts. That's why I love therapy - it's my time to talk about me, my anxiety, stresses, ups and downs without judgement and usually I get great feedback to work through it.

Don't let the mainstream culture tell you how weird it is or how "bad" it might be to have a therapist. We all have issues that need help to manage. Just accept it and your life can only change, for the better.

Everyone should have a go-to therapist like they do a dentist, or general practitioner. Mental health is stupid important and you have to take care of yourself. If you're just looking for help to get to where you need (and deserve) to be, then a therapist a great start to your new life.

All love,
Scott Emo

The Shaman

I Saw a Shaman Today
I woke up today with the realization that I am fighting for my life, everyday. My back is against the fence and I'm being attacked by crazy and rabid people. I am trying to fight off these motherfuckers like Bruce Lee or Jean-Claude Vadamme - obviously the Blood Sport Jean-Claude, but I am finally making small progress to win this battle some call life.

It's HARD work to be happy and to achieve your dreams. On one hand I am so blessed to have the opportunity to pursue it and on the other hand I am fearful we're not going to make it. My ultimate high is when someone tells any of The Scott Emo Show family members how much they like the show, the cause and the movement.

I don't know why I can't feel that way everyday, but then I got GREAT advice from a Shaman (thanks to Jenn S. for the introduction). Shamanism (pron.: /ˈʃɑːmən/ shah-mən or /ˈʃeɪmən/ shay-mən) is a practice that involves a practitioner reaching altered states of consciousness in order to encounter and interact with the spirit world.[2] A shaman is a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of benevolent and malevolent spirits, who typically enters into atrance state during a ritual, and practices divination and healing.

He told me that I need to live everyday in The Scott Emo Show. Everyday needs to be lived the same way I feel after we produce a killer LIVE taping. That's a deep fucking statement. I get it and I don't at the same time. It's the best drug I've ever taken and it's free, meaningful, and all-natural. How do I translate that feeling to my everyday life?

No idea is the answer. I need to search for it, connect with people that support the cause, hug a tree, pray, talk to a rock on the beach, who knows, but I'll get there.

All love,
Scott Emo

Morning Pages - GREAT Exercise!

5/3/2013

This entry is an exercise from the amazing book "The Artists Way".  If you don't own or don't have the money to buy it, find a used one or buy a new one and begin reading it! The book will help you transform your thoughts and enhance your creativity.

The point of this particular task is to write down anything that comes to your mind (making sense or not). Write until it's all out and you can mentally and possibly physically feel better. Below was my process today; It might be convoluted, but I definitely learned a message from my thoughts today.

Morning Pages:
Need to clear my head and open up new channels of creativity. Something is blocking my creative channel and I'm desperately searching for it. This is a good lesson: I said I was desperate to find it, but now that I wrote that down, I need to remind myself to (1) not to be so hard on myself and (2) live in the moment and be present without desiring something that could or could not happen.

I should be writing about my baby. My wife had her 16 week appointment today and the baby is doing fantastic. Heart is beating at the right pace and is growing/healthy. I am blessed to have such an incredible wife that supports me through this journey I am on. I know it's all going to pay off, but everyone has to fall a few times before they really learn how to ride a bike - I'm getting bruised and getting a few bumps, but I'm fighting a meaningful fight, so it's worth the pain.

We all have lifestyle choices and we chose how much money we want to spend on "stuff". How nice does your apt. need to be? How nice does your car have to be? How much do a pair of jeans cost? It's all a choice we have control over. We all over eat (I mean I am the biggest emotional eater there is), but I guarantee if we cut everything in 1/2, we would all save money and most likely feel better.

Everyone makes mistakes, but how do we learn from them and grow, develop new thought patterns and to interrupt the old ones. I thought it would be good to share that I am listening to DRE and he's a mastermind, what a talented dude. Hopefully I get to interview him one day.

Now that I wrote these thoughts down, I feel so much better. I feel like I have more room to breathe in my lungs and my brain feels so much more at ease. I used to not like writing, but now I actually love it. What tool to help people overcome thought blocks.

All love,
Scott Emo

The Art Of Networking

As a small business, our goal is to get people interested in the content we are producing and putting out there - we stay authentic to who we are, but we also need to build an audience. So, I was wondering, what else can I be doing to promote The Scott Emo Show?

There are so many networking events and ways to connect with new people, but how do you make an impact on someone? How do you get someone to engage with your brand after an event or encounter? I am still trying to figure this out myself, but below are some good tips that have which has helped me to date. If you have any other ways to spread a message and get people committed to your cause, please leave a comment below!

Proposed ways:
  1. I think the first step is to be genuine. Be honest, clear and pure about your intentions when meeting someone.
  2. I'd say step 2 is to ensure that you are also providing some sort of value to the other party.
  3. Step 3 is to ensure you exchange contact information and step 5 is to follow up. The key is following up. Everyone's schedules get so busy, but following is crucial to connecting with people and making an impact on someone's life - be memorable.

I started meeting people through this new ride sharing company in Chicago. I pick up (in my car) very cool and unique people (it's awesome and not scary at all) and we talk about each others stories. It's such a great way to meet people and to get to know someone in a short period of time - it actually really helps me hone my interviewing skills because I only have a certain amount of time to get to know someone during our ride, which is usually 5-10 minutes long.

If you're looking to network and to expand your circle, you need to be proactive and get out there and meet people through different avenues, such as Side Car and other industry networking events. It's a hustle just like anything else and takes effort.

Don't overcomplicate this process, let it flow naturally!

All love,
Scott Emo

Practice: MJ practiced everyday

"I grew up a fuckin' screw up" - damn those are some serious words. We've all made mistakes when we were younger, but it's not fair to those that never had the help to get better, outlets to release their negativity. Then, it's certainly a possibility, that their lifestyle becomes parallel to what is on TV and what society dictates for them. Why wouldn't they? Who else is paying attention to them? Then, they realize they are not part of the "normal people" group.

You start searching for who you are and to find the motivation to discover yourself. It's a practice, just like how MJ had to practice become the best player in the world. Wow, makes a lot sense when you write and don't think.

Purge the words inside you and see what happens. Get rid of your thoughts, but manage them, and open new channels of creativity and clarity.

This moment happens for everyone, believe!

All love,
Scott Emo

I Got Your Back

It's such an amazing feeling when someone can help you see the world differently and bring a fresh  perspective to a situation, especially a shitty situation. We all get in the heat of the moment and get caught up in our emotions, but those who can help, step in and rescue you from that chaos, is a damn blessing. Those people should be cherished.

I say therapist in a general sense. Your friend, your mom, your dad, your brother, your lady/man, etc. can help you see the world in a positive light if you are in a dark place, then those are the people you want in your life - those who truly believe in your happiness.

I really felt like shouting out the people that help those in need and give back to how blessed we are to have the lives we have. It's cool to take some time, breathe (feel the breathe) and appreciate what you have, not what you want.

I learned something today-  when you're working on a project, either work it or don't. Don't go 1/2 ass on shit.

One love,
Scott Emo

Social Reality

Social media is something that I love because it's conversational. There are so many interesting topics that people bring up on Twitter and Facebook, that is where a lot of people get their news and it connects people with peop

It's cool to share your life with others, but I wonder if people actually share how they're really feeling. There are definitely a certain few that I know that post real feelings and emotions consistently, but 95% of the rest of my friends on Facebook posts happy and cuddly content. I'm not mad at it, I love happy shit, like baby photos, food photos, etc. I just prefer to see more authentic content from people that have a bad day, disliked something their friend said, or whatever. It's social media, not happy media. I personally would find it cool, do you?

I am outtie 5,000. I have an interview with Twista on Thursday and I am geeking out so hard.

It Was All A Dream

It was all a dream, until I started to believe in myself.
Dreams become a reality the second you decide it's feasible. There are too many sacrifices I can label, but I chose not to put out bad energy in to the universe - I love what I am doing every single day. Is there stress and anxiety, of course, but I love it. I simply want to impact people's lives to inspire them and motivate them to pursue their dreams. The Scott Emo Show is my platform to do that. I am so lucky to have our team, our guests and too excited for what the future holds for us.

I realized you don't have to have the most innovative idea to make a living off something you love - you simply need passion, commitment, willingness to fail and strong support from your close circle of friends.

What you put in to this world is what you will get out of it. To me, that doesn't mean work 24/7 (even though I do), but do things with a purpose, a cause and put your heart in to it. Never do things half-ass - you are wasting your time and your colleagues.

Here's the greatest thing about life: We have the choice to do ANYTHING we want. YOU are in control, YOU are in the driver seat and YOU get to make the ultimate decision. Let your consciousness guide you to where you belong.

Be nice. Be gentle to yourself. Be patient. It will happen as long as you're open.

All love,
Scott Emo
