Woke up and thought today was going to be a good day, exactly the way Ice Cube portrays it in his song. Today feels like the best day ever. I found out that my wife and I are having a baby girl, I mean fuck yea! I'm allowed to say that, this is my damn blog, sucka!

So happy and so thankful for having a daughter and having the opportunity to name her after my mom. We already have the name planned out, we are so happy it's pouring out of the both of us! This totally affects the show on so many levels.

From taking time off to take care of the baby, to now planning further in advance and bringing the baby with us, to inspiration the baby is going to provide us, plus so much more. It's all good though, life will be as is and will be lived and loved no matter the circumstances we face.

My dad, step mom and my mother-in-law came in to share the reveal of the news. We ended up going to Panera afterwards and talked about how amazing it is to have this blessing of bringing in a new child to this earth. With my mom being gone, this moment really affected me strongly and allowed me to appreciate the beauty of life just that much more.

12- 2pm:
Spent time updating our Kickstarter campaign and reaching out to as many people as possible to support our trip to LA to interview amazing musical guests for The Scott Emo Show. I'm really focused on raising the neccessary funds to get these interviews captured on film so we can have the content for life. That's how amazing it is to interview people, you get to be inspired over and over again from real people who have real stories, but while having fun.

If you don't know who Phillip Chang is, you might not be in PR/Marketing. Phillip is definitely a sophisticated, cool and great guy to know. He came up with an idea for our Kickstarter campaign that made so much sense. He told me that our rewards were ok, but we should spice it up. So... what did he do, Scott?

Well, Phillip came up with the genius idea of allowing some of our project backers the exclusive opportunity to ask our interviewees a question. I thought it was such a good incentive for someone to support the project and get some real cool value out of their financial support. So, he motivated me to update our campaign and within a few hours, it was on!!!

Going to get ice cream with the Lindsay and her mom... To be continued.

I think I'm going to spend the rest of the night trying to sell our Kickstarter campaign to everyone I know.

Just got a call from Kandi Burruss' publicist a few mins ago to confirm we have an interview with the lovely Kandi Burruss on Wednesday of next week! I'm a legit fan of the Real Housewives show, but I'm especially a fan of Kandi because she's bold, creative, passionate and you can feel her positive energy. It'll be a phone interview, and it's going to be awesome. Now, I need to do my research on her from other interviews she has done and ensure I'm bringing something unique to the table, but stays consistent with our message.

"You belong somewhere you feel free..."

11am:

I had a really good conversation with David from iCrossing who is the man responsible for connecting me with J.D. and he really is a terrific guy. It's not easy to find like-minded people that want to enjoy life and empower people to be the best that they can be, until you become open to it - and then amazing people come in to your life and you can appreciate life more than you ever knew!

We met at Starbucks off Lake and LaSalle and right away I knew David was going to be so cool - I knew because he ordered a mango and orange smoothie - solid choice and sounds refreshing. We had so much to talk about that I can't fully recap everything, but I have a lot of people and things to research based of his thoughts and interests. David loves music like I love music. He started this killer blog called www.SuperHypeBlog.com where he interviews people who's music AND story resonate with him. We are totally doing the same style of content and it was a pleasure meeting him.

Also, he let me know about his wife Janice who left her job to become a short story author and she's having a launch party coming up that The Scott Emo Show is going to help capture her story and share with the world! Below is a photo of her book - thanks to David for sharing it with me!

I am just starting to put together the trailer video and full podcast from yesterday's interview with Kevin Porter. Kevin is this really chill guy who truly believes in doing what's right for him and seeing how other pressures from the outside can bring him down, so he's working on things that he loves, which is helping him live his life to the fullest. He had a lot of cool stories that he shared with me during our interview. Fo example, he loves to travel to places to experience the beauty and it allows him to center himself because of the scenery.

We talked about how bad his joint pains are getting because of the wear and tear his BMX career has had on him. He was also going through a divorce while trying to shoot a promo video for one of his sponsors and you can feel the frustration in his falls, but you'll hear what keeps motivating him to keep riding. There's so much more there, but the key takeaway from that interview was Kevin is a regular guy, living his dream and pursuing all of his passions while maintaining being a genuinely nice guy. You can check out the interview on our Podcast page, which we hope you enjoy and learn something from his story!

Just finished his promo trailer video and I love it - it's now 3pm. I need to get Sully and play/let him outside before I have to leave for tonight's event with Jillian C.

Just got off a call with Jillian C. about her new book launch event party, which is happening tonight at El Hefe from 6-9pm. I came up with the idea that our content that we're helping create for her needs to be focused on her, and not so much the book or event. We plan on shining a spotlight on her ambition, inspiration, connection with other people, and keeping the conversation authentic and fresh, but can last a lifetime and not just a one-time use, like an event. So, I am excited that she liked the idea and now we can stay consistent with what The Scott Emo Show represents, which is real people, real stories.

Just uploaded Kevin Porter's tralier video for our podcast, which came out so sick. Check it out below!
6p-m - 9:30pm
Just finished our red carpet interviews with Jillian and her very successful book launch party. The event had a lot of great people there all supporting her book and dream, which was awesome to see. The content and interviews The Scott Emo Show focused on was the author - the person who created this book and party and we wanted to have her friends, family and fans tell us about Jillian, the person, which includes being an author. Mad shout out to Theo, Daniel and Alon for supporting The Scott Emo Show family.

It's now 11pm and I'm about to send out another Kickstarter campaign email so we can go to the BET awards! Support the love, y'all:

Thanks for helping, reading, dreaming and supporting us during this journey!

Life Building a Talk Show - Day Blog

I love The Scott Emo Show. It's 1am and I'm writing about some of the things we're working on and I don't even feel like I'm working. The Show is part of my DNA. Anyway, I can ramble on, but I won't.

The first thing I was really focused on was this new Kickstarter campaign we started to help raise funds for our trip to LA to interview some mega stars, people that I admire, artists with unlimited creativity and we can really geek out on music, life, overcoming obstacles, gifts they've spoiled themselves with, inspiration, giving back, and so much more. I hope we can make this happen in the short amount of time we have to pull together financial resources to get out of Chicago. I suppose if the idea is good, the money will come.

I also had a real solid conversation with one of our family members and we had a really productive talk about the show, the direction of it, the budget, format for the next show, plus more. Everyobody likes reassurance, everyone has great ideas, but some places don't allow you to think outside of the box, and that is what the show is not about - we strictly promote stepping outside of the box, getting real....and inspiring people to live and love their one and only life.

I always contemplate where the show is going to go, but I'm not worried about it right now. The seed has been planted, now it's time to water this plant, give it some good sunlight, speak to it, nourish it, and make sure it's happy because it's making me and our team so happy. I guess this is the new relationship I am building and that is to take time with the show and feed it with happiness - a relationship is a 2-way street, Lindsay said that.

I am also writing because I heard it helps with SEO, but I need to practice my writing anyway, so look forward to a daily post about the day in the life of building a talk show from scratch.

All love,
Scott Emo

Salutations,

The Scott Emo Show Family is looking to take our talents to LA (June 28 - June 30) and we need YOUR help getting there. We moved forward with a community supported funding campaign to create a small web-series interviewing some of the biggest names in music, but we are not going to ask mainstream media questions - you know how we roll.

As you know, our content is a fine blend between inspiration and entertainment. The Scott Emo Show sheds light on real people who have real stories that overcome significant life challenges and become emotionally wealthy.

We'd love your support to ignite the ability to share our interviews with (potentially) millions of people - and who knows, it could CHANGE someone's life - is there anything better?

Below are more details and we hope you can support our movement to reach another milestone for the show.

***If you can't support financially, it's ok! If you can, please send this to a friend, post it on your Facebook page, tweet about it and send it to a few more friends :).

All love,
The Scott Emo Show Family

Addiction is a Motha

I chose to share my life with the public. I have no fear or regrets on what I've done or what I'm doing because I believe in everything I do now. I value the life I currently have. I have no clue what's going to happen tomorrow, but I'm also less afraid than I was before because as long as I have a vision, support and pray a lot, I am going to wake up happy and filled with life. This new life is addicting and is powerful, but with every action there's a reaction and that can bite you in the ass.

I have mad issues, but I like a challenge. It's painful and dangerous to confront issues, to be honest with how you feel about a situation and to not hide from difficult topics to discuss, but 10-10 times you discuss it, the better you feel about it. Who knew how important communication is!

Unless you are a true vampire or sleeping, no one likes pure darkness. The truth will set you free, but it also can come with consequences - not all the time, but sometimes. Taking someone else's feelings in to consideration (even though you are being honest) can be a really conflicting and emotional feeling to have.

The cool part about learning about yourself is that you can always change and you're never truly stuck as long as you're open to change. I need to become more open to change myself and I will do my damnedest to do so.

"I am a sinner, who's going to probably sin again... lord forgive me.... lord forgive me for things I don't understand. Sometimes I need to be alone." - Kendrick Lamar

Jermaine Dupri Comes To Chicago

As a hip hop fanatic, this interview meant a lot to me. I had a blast chatting it up with one of the most legendary names in the game, Jermaine Dupri. I met JD at The Crimson Lounge in Chicago at the Hotel Sax. JD was in town to DJ at RJ Melman's birthday party (at Sub 51). That same day I found out he would be in Chicago, I reached out to his management group and locked in an interview with JD. It wasn't as simple as that, but I can't give away my secrets to the public - ya heard!

He flew in from Atlanta to Chicago that day, the second he got out of his SUV car service, he dropped off his Louis luggage and we went right in to the interview.

Everyone that knows about that heard or saw the interview is impressed. The Scott Emo Show had JD on, but what fascinates me more is the fascination of others being surprised we secured that "star" power name for an interview. I always respond back to those with the same answer: We interview real people who have real stories, and JD is a real person who has a real story - he just has a lot of GREAT music that a lot of people enjoyed for 20+ years. But, he has family, he had to climb his way to the top, never compromised his vision and stayed dedicated to his beliefs.

In this particular interview I found out JD is a vegan, doesn't blaze, is so dedicated to his work, but still makes time for his daughter, his favorite tattoo is of his daughter, he created this sick social media platform to allow unsigned artists to send him and others their music, plus much more.

We takled for a hour and we will have a three part video series just on JD.

Below is part 1 and then continue your way to www.YouTube.com/TheScottEmoShow for the rest of the interviews!

All love,

Monday evening in Chicago, the weather is breezy, the energy is clean and the vibe is right. I really felt like sharing how grateful I am for the people that are involved in The Scott Emo Show. I look at our team as a family and something that is growing because of the people that are the show. It's the internal team and the external (which is our audience). We are all family because we are a unified group that supports each other's happiness.

I'm thankful for the people who are staying committed to the cause and believe in the long-term vision for the show.

Steve Jobs said, “Sometimes life's going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did.”

All love,
Scott Emo

Lifestyle Choices

The more I contemplate the lifestyle I want to live, the more clarity I have. The deeper I can tap in to me, the better I understand who I want to surround myself with, interview, partner up with, etc.

I just started realizing I am seeking out people to interview who have made their own wealth from scratch - wealth, to me, is not solely defined as being rich financially, but also rich mentally and emotionally. People that treat their business as their lifestyle and people who are committed to their emotional well-being.

When I interviewed Kevin Smith, from The Kevin Smith Agency, he talked about that and it instantly had me thinking of what lifestyle I want to live and how to make The Scott Emo Show fit in to that lifestyle. I definitely don't have the answer now, but now I am going to think about it more and explore what lifestyle makes me happiest. The one were I can get lost in time and just feel great the entire day. I don't want to be pissed off, I don't want to be angry, I want to live with meaning and happiness!

I thought this would be cool to share out and for you to think about that aspect of your life. Lastly, listen to what Kevin's perspective is during our time together at his office here: http://goo.gl/nANlr

Chicago Podcast

I always thought filming all of our interviews was the direction The Scott Emo Show would go, but now that we offer people a podcast format and give our guest the opportunity to call our hotline, we can connect with anyone around the world at anytime! Our chances of securing interviews with more people increases at a rate of like 433% (I totally made up that stat), but you get the point.

Our Chicago podcast is called No Labels. It simply a title that represents a chicago podcast without boundaries. No filters, raw, organic and fun is the best way for me to describe it. It opened so many doors to cool-ass people all over the country I typically had no access to.

We use Podomatic for all of our interviews and their RSS feed syncs with our iTunes account, which is located below for you to click on and listen to some of the interviews we've had - they're all unique and awesome in their own right. Remember, everyone has a story!

Check out all of our interviews here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/scott-emo-show-no-labels-podcast/id639416276

I wanted to add this song I'm currently listening to for the simple fact I can - it's also a dope song!

Mothers Day - 2013

Yesterday was Mother's Day. My mom passed on June 3, 2011. Fuck, those are some real words to write down. I am currently writing this blog entry at Passion Cafe in Chicago in the River North neighborhood and I can't keep fighting back these tears, so I broke down and opened the flood gates. If you're wondering if people saw me crying, the answer is simply yes. It's impossible to think about her life and not tear up and I don't think I 100% accepted the fact she passed and there's still a lot of stuff to work through.

Life is a roller coaster of good times and bad times. Who knows when our day is up, but I do know her life was taken too soon and easily could have been prevented. Hindsight is 20/20, but all that leaves me with is to fight for my life and live each day with a purpose.

I had some good times with my mom, but we had our battles too. There are still scars that haven't been worked through, but we also had a blast together. I have amazing memories with her. She always wanted the best for her kids and for her kids to simply be happy. She expressed that sentiment all the time to us. So, what did you we do together: We went to Tom Petty concerts together, dinners, we painted together, listened to a lot of different music together and god only knows what other amazing things we did during her time on earth.

My mom was the type of person to give you anything you wanted. If you said to her that you liked her necklace, she would take it off and give it to you - literally - don't fight with her because she would make a scene - so you had to accept it - I look back now and realize that was a cool strategy she had to ensure the other person got what they desired - now I realize she never got what she desired, which is love.

I love you mom - I know you are with me everyday. Continue leading me down a path of greatness and providing me with blessings, like our baby - we will name our baby after you.
