I can remember the day and the chronological order of events that went down the day I was laid off from Edelman one-year ago today.
On the day I was let go, I remember leaving and walking out of the AON center with profuse confusion. Lindsay was pregnant, this was the first time someone has ever laid me off, I had no idea what I was going to do w/ income and I remember thinking about applying for unemployment. Unemployment seemed embarassing to use, but someone told me that I paid taxes for it out of my pay check and the program is designed to help you get back on your feet, which is so true. Unemployment allowed me to stay above water while I figured out my next move.
One year later, I created a talk show that got picked up by Comcast/Xfinity, I co-produced a music video with Twista and 7 other prominent videos, helped a few brands with their social media strategy and content production and more importantly had my baby girl, Elexis.
I feel too blessed and so thankful for this day and for my family, friends and group of supporters that believe you can do something positive to impact the world and future generations. The truth is hard to swallow, but the truth will set you free. My mental state is becoming more and more balanced with enjoying the present moment and truly knowing I can't control what will happen one second from now.
With love and grattitude,
Scott
